Grow with US – SelectUSA Investment Summit 2017
Australian Companies to Join Global Business Leaders and U.S. Government Officials at Top Investment Event
From June 18 to 20, 2017, twenty-two high-profile Australian investors and business leaders will participate in the fourth annual SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington D.C. Spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Commerce, the SelectUSA Summit is the largest U.S. Government-organised event aimed at attracting investment into the United States. AmCham CEO Niels Marquardt will be joining the Australian delegation this year.
“The SelectUSA Investment Summit is a forum like no other, that provides tremendous access to US leadership,” said Niels Marquardt. “I was honoured to lead the Australian delegation to SelectUSA in 2016, which included more than a dozen companies seeking to expand into the US.”
The United States is currently the largest recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the world, with a total stock of $3.1 trillion at the end of 2015. Australia is the twelfth-largest source of FDI in the United States. Estimated at over $537.4 billion in 2015, Australian investment in a wide variety of sectors employs thousands of American workers.
“The impressive profile of the Australian delegation at the 2017 SelectUSA Investment Summit reflects the unprecedented strength of the overall U.S.-Australia alliance,” said Douglas Wallace, Commercial Counselor of Australia and New Zealand. “With a relationship valued at $1.5 trillion, the United States is Australia’s largest economic partner, largest foreign investor, largest partner in two-way trade in services, and Australian direct investment in the United States employs 95,000 American workers. This relationship in underpinned by the 2005 Australia U.S. Free Trade Agreement, and SelectUSA presents an extremely effective and popular avenue for Australians to further grow our relationship through expanded investment in our country.”
The SelectUSA Investment Summit is dedicated to promoting FDI in the Unites States by raising awareness of opportunities and creating vital connections between foreign investors and Economic Development Organizations. Each Summit focuses on a theme related to the current investment environment, industry trends, and new opportunities in the United States. The 2017 conference theme is “Grow with US”, exploring three main platforms for global economic growth and job creation: inspiration, knowledge, and opportunity. Over 2,500 representatives from all 50 U.S. states and more than 65 international markets will participate in the 2017 Investment Summit.
SelectUSA veteran and Chair of Industry Super Australia Peter Collins will be returning for the 2017 Summit. “It was phenomenally invaluable. We feel very welcomed going back to Washington D.C. and we have every confidence this relationship we’re building will only grow in the future.”
