CEO Message February 2017

Article by Niels Marquardt

No doubt many of you would have been following the last eventful month in US politics with great interest. The key point to remember – and one that I made on Sky News earlier this month – is that the process of standing up a government in the US is a long one that has only just begun. We anticipate that by the time AmCham returns to Washington on our annual Washington Doorknock in June, there will be more clarity around who will be managing the US-Australia relationship, and how the Trump administration’s agenda will play out. We will also get a clearer picture of the administration’s agenda at AmCham’s “Trump After 100 Days” panel events around the country the week of May 1. Check our website for more details as they emerge!

Upcoming Trade Missions

Offshore Technology Conference
Houston, Texas – 29 April – 5 May

Once again this year, we will lead a delegation to the world’s largest Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas. It will run 29 April – 5 May. This is the best place to do business with leading global executives in the energy industry. There are still a few places available, so now is the time to register for this exciting trade mission!

Asia-Pacific Business Summit
Guangzhou, China – 19-22 April

There’s still time to register for this year’s APCAC Summit in Guangzhou, China on April 19-22. We anticipate that this event will be a key opportunity to connect with newly appointed regional leaders from the Trump administration. Plus, you will join more than 600 business and industry leaders, as well as media, academia, policy experts and top government officials from US, China, and across the Asia Pacific region. I will be leading an Australian delegation this year – I hope you can join me!

Washington Doorknock
June 19-23

Our annual Washington Doorknock will take place June 19-23. Join us for behind the scenes access to key play-makers and agencies in the Trump administration, the Republican-dominated Congress, leading think tanks and more. Our focus will be on advocating for a better deal for our members on the “three T’s” – trade, tax, and travel. Plus, our official airline partners Virgin Australia and Delta Air Lines will be pleased to tailor travel solutions for AmCham delegates. Visit our website to learn more about the new flight legs to the US which will be on offer from April 4.
